Why Cre8pc? What does it stand for?
I'll try to explain the unexplainable.
The other day
I was at my bank (actually inside it instead of whizzing past the 'ole
MAC machine!), and the bank teller noticed "Cre8pc.com" on my checks.
He read it outloud, as most people do..."C. R. E. (pause) Is that a
number 8? (I nod yes.) P. C....crea eight pee c..oh, Create Peace! Wow,
that's really cool!" It always sinks in a little slowly at first.
Sometimes they say "crea eight peee ceee" and come out with "Create
PC", (as in personal computer), look puzzled, and ask about it. I launch
into this whole crazy story about it meaning "Create Peace" and how
I wanted "Cre8pc" put on the vanity license plate for my car because
the message was important to me. When I started building my web site
I had very little idea what direction to go in. I just knew it would
be about web development and I wanted it to be resourceful, fun, and
a little crazy. Like me.
So I named my web site after my car's license plate. Then, if I haven't
already lost folks with this story, I explain that when I started my
web site I was a divorced, jobless, single mom of two who desperately
wanted not only to survive, but to thrive. The web site became my self-teaching
tool and my interest in learning the craft of web development in 1995
enabled me to teach myself a new career. I created a new life with my
PC. But, I had no idea I would eventually do that when I bought
the domain, Cre8pc.com.
People rarely understand what I'm trying to explain (ok, is it Create
PC or Create Peace? That's all they REALLY want to know!), but they
do get the part about creating one's reality. They remember the original
message - "Create Peace". The bank teller kept repeating it over and
over, and his smile got bigger and bigger. Here's hoping you're smiling
too!
